The overnight desert safari in Abu Dhabi is the full Al Khatim evening safari plus a night at our Bedouin camp, about 45 minutes from the city.

After dune bashing, BBQ dinner and three live shows, you stay for the bonfire and stars. You sleep in a tent with mattresses and blankets, then wake for sunrise and breakfast. AED 450 per person. Free cancellation up to 24 hours.

Why spend the night with us

Both ends of the day.

Sunset over the dunes in the evening, sunrise over Al Khatim before breakfast, for AED 450 per person.

The full evening comes first.

Dune bashing, the BBQ dinner and three live shows are part of the night, not extras on top of it.

A sky without city glow.

When the shows end the camp goes quiet, and you sleep in a Bedouin-style tent or out under the stars.

Book without risk.

No deposit, pay on arrival by cash or card, and free cancellation up to 24 hours before. If a sandstorm stops the trip, you choose a free reschedule or a full refund.

“How basic is the tent?” You get mattresses, pillows and clean blankets, with separate washrooms for men and women. Want a private tent? Ask on WhatsApp before you book.

“Will I be cold at night?” Winter nights in the dunes are cool, so pack a warm layer. The tent sides close against the wind.

What the night adds: evening vs overnight

Both trips share the same afternoon: dune bashing, the sunset stop, camp activities, dinner and shows. The difference is everything after about 9:30 PM.

Evening Overnight
Price per person AED 250 AED 450
Back in city Same night Next morning
Sunset, dinner, shows Yes Yes
VIP seat + quad Included Add-on
Bonfire No Yes
Dark-sky hours None Several
Tent night No Yes
Sunrise + breakfast No Yes

The night, the sunrise and breakfast cost AED 200 more per person. A couple pays AED 900 against AED 500 for the evening. That AED 400 buys something no city hotel can offer: no light pollution and a sunrise over empty dunes.

Choose the evening if you have an early flight, small children who need their own bed, or you only want the shows. Choose the overnight if the stars and the sunrise are why you came.

After the shows: the night, step by step

The afternoon runs like our evening desert safari in Abu Dhabi. This is what changes once the shows finish.

2:30–3:30 PM · Pickup

Dune bashing, the sunset stop, camp activities, starters at 6:30 PM, then the BBQ buffet with belly dance, LED Tanoura and the fire show.

Stargazing: when the sky is actually dark

Al Khatim sits well away from the city glow, so bright stars show on any clear night. How much you see depends on the moon and how long the sky stays fully dark.

  • Pick a date near the new moon. The three or four nights either side give the darkest sky.
  • Winter nights (Nov–Feb) are the longest and bring Orion and the bright winter constellations.
  • The Milky Way core rises before dawn in late winter and spring, and is up in the evening in summer.
  • Let your eyes adjust. Step away from the bonfire for 15 minutes and keep your phone screen dim.

What time is sunrise at Al Khatim?

Most overnight pages say "wake at 5:30 AM". That holds only from May to August. In the main season, sunrise is closer to 7:00 AM.

Overnight desert safari FAQ

How much is the overnight desert safari in Abu Dhabi?
AED 450 per person, including the 4×4 transfer, dune bashing, camp activities, BBQ dinner, three live shows, a night in a Bedouin-style tent, sunrise and breakfast. Children under 3 travel free; from age 3 the standard price applies. There is no deposit; you pay on arrival by cash or card.
What time does it start and finish?
Pickup is mid-afternoon, between 2:30 and 3:30 PM depending on your pickup point, and you are back in Abu Dhabi between 8:00 and 9:00 AM the next morning. Your exact pickup time is sent on WhatsApp the day before.
Where do you sleep, and what bedding is provided?
In a traditional Bedouin-style tent with mattresses, pillows and clean blankets. The tent sides open or close with the wind. Men's and women's washrooms are separate. You can also sleep outside under the stars. Ask on WhatsApp if you need a private tent.
What time is sunrise, and will I see it?
Yes, if the sky is clear. Sunrise at Al Khatim is around 7:00 AM from December to February, about 6:15–6:35 AM in October and November, and 5:30–6:00 AM from April to August. The camp wakes you in time.
Can you see the Milky Way?
On clear, moonless nights you see far more stars than in the city, and often the band of the Milky Way. Book near the new moon for the darkest sky. Winter gives the longest dark nights, about ten and a half hours of full darkness.
What is served for breakfast?
A light breakfast with qahwa (Arabic coffee) and tea at the camp after sunrise, before the drive back. For the full menu or a special diet, ask on WhatsApp when you book. Dinner the night before is a BBQ buffet with vegetarian and non-vegetarian dishes.
Is the overnight safari suitable for children?
Yes. Children aged 3 and over can join dune bashing at a gentler pace, and under-3s travel free on an adult's seat. Families who prefer a calmer drive can skip the dune bashing. Bring a warm layer for each child, as desert nights are cool in winter.
How is it different from the evening safari?
The evening safari (AED 250) ends after the shows and drops you back the same night, with VIP seating and a 30-minute single-seat quad session included. The overnight (AED 450) keeps you at camp for the bonfire, stars, a tent night, sunrise and breakfast — AED 200 more per person.
How do I book, and can I cancel?
Send your date, number of guests and pickup point to +971 50 414 6025 on WhatsApp. We confirm availability and the pickup time. There is no online payment; you pay on arrival. Cancellation is free up to 24 hours before.

FAQ

Overnight desert safari FAQ

How much is the overnight desert safari in Abu Dhabi?

AED 450 per person. That covers the full evening safari — dune bashing, camel ride, BBQ dinner and live shows — plus a night in a Bedouin-style camp with a tent and sleeping bag, a bonfire, a sunrise camel ride and breakfast. Pay on arrival, cash or card.

Where do we sleep — in a tent or under the open sky?

In a tent with a proper sleeping bag, not on open sand. Washrooms are shared, separate for men and women, and our staff stay on site all night.

What time do we get back to Abu Dhabi?

Between 8:00 and 9:00 AM the next morning, after the sunrise camel ride and breakfast.

Is the overnight safari OK in summer?

Yes. The tents are ventilated and we run fans through the night. Bring a light jacket anyway — desert nights cool down even in summer.

Can small children come on the overnight safari?

Yes. Children under 3 join free, and families sleep together. Tell us who’s coming on WhatsApp so we set up the right tent.

Is alcohol served at the camp?

No. The camp serves no alcohol. Soft drinks, water, tea and Arabic coffee are unlimited.

What should I bring for the overnight safari?

A light jacket or shawl, closed shoes, a power bank, any medication, sunscreen and a small day bag. Leave swimwear at home — there is no pool at the camp.

Do I need to book the overnight safari in advance?

Yes — tents are limited, so book ahead, especially on weekends and holidays. Send your date, number of guests and pickup area on WhatsApp and we confirm.

Is the dune bashing the same as the evening safari?

Yes — the same Toyota Land Cruisers, the same Al Khatim dunes and the same licensed drivers. The overnight simply adds the camp night, bonfire, sunrise camel ride and breakfast.

How do I book the overnight safari?

Send one WhatsApp message to +971 50 414 6025 with your date, number of guests, pickup area and the word “Overnight”. We confirm your pickup time and you pay on arrival — no deposit, free cancellation up to 24 hours before.
